Blog 2: The Williams Rehab’s Fermentation Process
Research by everyone
Our Chosen Ingredients
After acquiring all that knowledge, we were able to decide on what sugars we wanted to ferment. Additionally, we were able to devise a fermentation procedure.
Glucose
Fructose
Sucrose
Starch
Our Chosen Ingredients
The brewing of our alcoholic beverages will require these materials and ingredients:
- Mason Jars (used to contain our concoctions)
- Gloves (used to measure the CO2 production)
- Water
- Glucose (Dextrose)
- Sucrose
- Fructose
- Starch
- Yeast
- Hydrometer
- Tape
Our Procedure
- Pour 250 mL of water into a mason jar
- Measure 62.5 g of sugar and add it to the mason jar to dissolve it in water
- Measure 2.5-5.0 g of yeast and add it to the mason jar
- Cover the top of the mason jar with a glove in order to measure the CO2 production
- Leave the mason jar(s) until the fermentation process has completed (around the 5 day mark)
- Carefully remove the glove from the mason jar (making sure that no CO2 leaks out) and displace it in a beaker of water to measure what volume of CO2 has been produced
- Purify the now alcoholic beverage
- Measure its alcohol content with the hydrometer
- Enjoy!
